Location

Stalybridge, UK

Project Type

Residential

The Stamford Street development in Stalybridge is a residential-led scheme granted planning permission for the former Stalybridge Clinic site. The proposal comprises two contemporary apartment blocks designed to revitalise a prominent brownfield site within the town centre, bringing forward a high-quality residential redevelopment close to local services, transport links, and the canal corridor.

Strategic Approach

The scheme was designed to optimise a constrained urban site through efficient land use and considered placemaking principles. The former clinic building was replaced with two well-proportioned apartment blocks that respond to the surrounding town-centre context in terms of scale, massing, and streetscape integration. The layout prioritised accessibility, parking provision, and pedestrian connectivity, ensuring the development supported sustainable town-centre living while contributing to wider regeneration objectives for Stalybridge.

Results and Effect

Although the scheme achieved full planning approval, it was not taken forward for construction. Nevertheless, the consented development demonstrated a clear strategy for regenerating a vacant brownfield site and established a positive planning framework for future redevelopment opportunities on the site. The approved design remains a strong reference point for how the site can contribute to residential growth and town-centre revitalisation in Stalybridge.
